5 Quick Ways a 12 Year Old Can Earn Money at School

School is an awesome place for 12 and 13 year olds to earn a bit of
quick money; why not give it a try with your classmates?
Have you ever wondered how you could earn a few bucks at school? Perhaps from your classmates? There are a billion and one ways to make money at school, especially for 12 and 13 year olds. You see, at this age, almost every kid has a few dollars to spare. The trick to earning money at school is to avoid selling things that are high priced; instead, sell things cheaply! You are going to have to have something that you can buy in bulk then resell the individual items at school for a cheap rate that will bring you a decent profit.

Your biggest tool to success is to ensure that your items are marked up at least 100% in price. For example: if a package of 10 items costs $5, you need to sell each individual item for $1 to earn a grand total of $10. This way, your expenses are only 50% of what you earned. Now that this makes sense, let's get down to business!

20 Tools Kids Can Use to Earn or Make Money

20 Tools Kids, Teens, and Tweens Can Use to Earn or Make Money

No matter how old you are- 11, 12, 13, or 14 years old- you can find a bazillion and one ways to make a little bit of cash to get you through the week. Or to save for that pretty, brand new car you want when you turn 16, or that awesome iPad that just came out, or for that big date that you wish you could take your crush out for. No matter what the reason, you already know that I'm here to help with tons of different ways! Therefore, I bring you a list of 20 tools that you can use to help you kids and teens earn money much more easily than before.                                                                                                                                                          If you have not earned much money yet and have already tried one or two of these methods, definitely try more. People ask how kids can earn money constantly, and while there are hundreds of answers, the problem is most kids don't stick to one method long enough for it to work. If it doesn't work after a few months, then yes; it might be time to try a different way of earning income. You CAN earn money as a kid; from 9 years old to 14 years old!

  • Pinterest: Pinterest is an image sharing site. You can attach links to images, mainly where the image came from. If you create cooky items such as cool dog costumes, pizza sleeping bags, or awesome hats, you should pin photos from your site or store for others to see. Some of the craziest products get virally pinned.
  • Facebook Status: Facebook is the perfect place ot advertise your things or services. If you are putting something up for sale, try posting a status about it first.
  • Craigslist: This is one of the best places to list your goods or services. Are you a kid trying to sell some Converse shoes, or maybe an old Toshiba Satellite laptop that just isn't cutting it anymore? Definitely try craigslist on for size.
  • Varage Sale: This is one of the hottest mobile applications for buying and selling stuff. Generally, people here are looking to pay a lower price than normal. It's great for decor, cheaper clothes, older shoes, furniture, and appliances. Electronics don't seem to fare so well here.
  • Newspapers: Yes, we know; newspapers are "old news". However, many adults STILL purchase newspaper subscriptions! This is your target market when it comes to providing services. No matter what kind of service you offer, it should be posted in your local newspaper.
  • Flyers: Do you use flyers at all? If not, you should make up hundreds of them. Give them out at school, put them on cars at your local Walmart, Galleria, Strip Mall, or Grocery Store. Fliers definitely catch attention; especially if they have to be removed from under the windshield wiper blade.
  • Word of Mouth: Ask friends and family to spread news of your services and goods. Try to get a buzz going, so the entire local community knows about you.
  • Word of mouth will sell this dress QUICKLY!
  • Business Cards: If you haven't gotten any business cards made, start off with about 100 of them. When you bring up your business or goods in conversation and the other person displays curiosity or interest, hand them a business card to take home.
  • Linked In: This social website is geared towards professionals. You can use it to create a personal profile, and add lots of local people in your area. This will help you to connect with all of the business people that you live near.
  • Etsy: This is an ecommerce platform. It's ready to go for you, and all you have to do is add your items. There is a monthly charge for etsy, but it's usually well worth it when the sales begin to roll in.
  • Craft Fairs:  If you're making unique items, try out the craft fairs. These are huge displays by different crafters, with hundreds of different items for sale. people who visit these fairs come armed with plenty of cash; which is exactly what you're looking for.
  • Flea Markets: Flea markets tend to be a diverse flora of awesome stuff; while some items might be trash that no one wants, other items are priceless antiques that the seller doesn't know anything about. Add your own interesting flair to the next local flea market, and offer up all of your kid items!

  • Yard Sales: Everyone knows a yard sale can bring some serious cash, especially after the economy tanked in 2008. This caused adults to become much more frugal with their money. You might remember one of your parents being laid off; or that your family began to shop at second hand stores such as Goodwill and consignment stores a lot. Yard sales are impulse stops for many, and they can bring an influx of cash with the right visitor.
  • Facebook Groups: Did you know there is a local buy and sell page for almost every town in the United States? Really! All you have to do is join, get accepted, and post photos of your items or your service. Then, wait for the messages and comments to roll in.
  • Contests: Contests- one thing EVERYONE loves. 13 year old entrepreneurs (business owners) could hold a photo contest, video contest, poetry contest, and any other contest that they might dream up. Give the winner a free service, product, or even cash.
  • Giveaways: Giveaways are extremely popular too! Unlike contests, it usually requires less effort to enter a giveaway. This is great for the busy kid who deals with school and sports. You could require that all entries be from past or present customers so that you won't suffer a loss in case it doesn't bring much business/profit in. As a kid, profits are probably on the lower end anyways, meaning you don't want to suffer a huge loss.
  • Yard Signs: Set up signs in your yard to advertise services or a business! Why not grab the attention of passing vehicles? It's a free and easy way of promotion for a kid or teen.
  • Ebay:  One of the best ways for teens to sell bigger ticket items for money is Ebay. The reason for this is the massive network of consumers that visit this mega commerce site every day. Even George Zimmerman sold a painting for $100,000 on this site! Try selling electronics, phones, gaming consoles, computers, big ticket accessories, and more on here for the quickest successful sale; people won't know you're only 12 or 13 years old, so they'll assume you're an adult. Use your parents' assistance in creating accounts. Oh, and old kids toys are a good idea as well, especially if they're not being manufactured anymore.
  • Blogging: Would you believe that if you started your own blog and constantly posted content, that you'll begin to drive in lots of traffic and viewers? It's true! If you build a quality blog, you'll have tons of people to advertise your goods and services to. Many kids are starting blogs as a way to ear money; the only thing with blogs is that sometimes you have to be thirteen years or older to start one.
  • Fiverr: For cheaper services and crafts that don't take you long to do (an hour or less), you should try Fiverr. This tool is awesome for kids. Just make sure that you can complete the service on your computer and send them a digital file, or that you can ship it to customers' addresses. Lots of kids and teens earn money with this site. IF you have questions about making money through the internet, the US Small Business Association has a thread that you can check out.
