School is an awesome place for 12 and 13 year olds to earn a bit of quick money; why not give it a try with your classmates? |
Your biggest tool to success is to ensure that your items are marked up at least 100% in price. For example: if a package of 10 items costs $5, you need to sell each individual item for $1 to earn a grand total of $10. This way, your expenses are only 50% of what you earned. Now that this makes sense, let's get down to business!
#1: Selling Small Candies
Candy is so easy to sell that it isn't even funny. EVERY kid loves candy. You can usually buy a bag of candy with roughly 50 pieces in it for about $3. You can sell each piece of candy for $0.25 or $0.50 depending on the size of it. Even if you only sell the candy for a quarter, you will still earn $12.50. That is over 4x's what you would have paid for the entire bag!
#2 Selling Pencils, Pens, and Paper
You have probably had someone ask you for pens, paper, or pencils several times per week at school. This is the normal day at school for a kid! This will continue even in college, so be prepared to hear those questions over and over again. Keep a stock of these items and offer to sell them really cheap to kids who need them. Stock up on BIC pens and pencils; you can usually get 10 or more for just $2 or $3; you can then sell them for $0.50. Make sure that you get mechanical pencils instead of the wooden ones, as most kids don't like to use the wooden ones.
#3 Selling Class Notes
After you take class notes, go home and type them up on the computer. Do this weekly, so that you have all of the notes from each class. Let your classmates know that you are doing this, and tell them that they don't have to take notes for the entire semester; because you'll sell the whole week's notes to them for $3! Even if only 4 kids in EACH class do this (assuming you have 4 classes in a day), that's $48 a week. JUST FOR TYPING NOTES GUYS!
#4 Write Papers for Classmates
This one might be a little harder. You can write papers for classmates if you are good at doing so, and charge $25 or more for doing it. Some kids have a really hard time writing papers; but if you're a skilled 12 or 13 year old English student, it's a go!
#5 Write Love Notes for People
We all know that crushes run rampant in middle school. We also know that most of the kids with crushes just don't know how to voice their feelings. You can write and sell love notes to people; and even offer to deliver it for them so that they won't have to muster up the courage to do so!
